Analysis of Maternal Death in a Tertiary Care Hospital

Objectives: Maternal death was analyzed in Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College hospital to improve the quality of maternal health care. Methods: In this cross -sectional study, each case reviewed individually and factors responsible for were identified noted. Results: During study period January 2019 December total 16 recorded among 3410 deliveries. 68% deceased mother less than 30 years age. Parity shows 37.50% multipara. 75% delivered by caesarean section, 6% vaginal delivery 12.5% died undelivered. Regarding time interval 25% occurred within 24 hours admission hospital. The main causes severe preeclampsia- eclampsia (31.25%), PPH (12.5%), septicemia DIC (12.5%). Some them lack proper ANC, delayed hospital, blood transfusion related. Conclusion: Substantial number at or <30 Preeclampsia-eclampsia, hemorrhage, as major cause death. J Med Coll 2020; 12(2): 63-66
